The Team Grows- A Research Mentor Joins!

We are pleased to announce that we are starting to roll out initiatives to strengthen the status of Fetal Radiology in India, and have identified integration of diagnostic and clinical medicine and research as one of the priority areas for Fetal Radiology & Imaging in India.

We are pleased to inform that an experienced researcher and mentor, Dr Praveen Nirmalan, has joined the team focused on strengthening the research infrastructure of the program. Dr. Nirmalan did his basic medical education from Thrissur, Kerala and followed it with a PG Diploma in Ophthalmology from Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai and a Vitreo-retinal Fellowship from Mumbai. Subsequently, he completed his MPH and a Public Health Ophthalmology Fellowship from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in USA. He has led community based and clinical research in some of the top eye care institutes of India and led a clinical research program at a top tier obstetric and neonate institute as well. He has experience chairing Ethics Committees and has helped with the setting up of Institutional Review Boards. Besides mentoring clinical faculty, he has mentored DNB and PhD students through their dissertation work and research methods. He has been part of several international studies bringing his expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics to the teams he has worked with. He has published over 80 papers in scientific journals and is a reviewer for many top tier journals in diverse disciplines. He is currently focused on sharing his experience in research methods and statistical analysis, and mentoring practitioners or organizations that do not have formal research support systems in place. He believes in shared lifelong learning with ownership of work residing with those he mentors. Dr Nirmalan has agreed to join the team as a mentor and guide us on the Fetal Radiology Road Map for India.

We look forward to a lot of constructive work!
